Modern Music Literature

       Modern Music Literature Faculty of Popular Music School was founded in 2002. Modern Music Literature is a new type of course about music theory combined music and literature and aimed at cultivating versatile and practical talent. There are four specialties in the faculty, namely, music comment, lyrics creating, revising and writing of drama scripts and music planning and documents writing. There are nine professional teachers, including part-time teachers. Among them, two teachers are with senior professional titles, two with intermediate professional titles and five with primary professional titles. And two teachers have master’s degree. Associate Professor Li Xingwu, as the dean of the faculty, is also the tutor of masters majoring in the history of western music in SCCM. The faculty is devoted to cultivating professional personnel with the ability of music commenting, lyrics creating, scripts writing and music planning and mainly engaging in the field of music commenting and creation of literature and art.
       

       At present, Modern Music Literature Faculty mainly offers the professional courses such as music comment, lyrics creating, revising of drama scripts, music planning and documents writing, dissertation writing and the basic professional courses such as history of Chinese music, history of western music, outline of national music, outline of popular music, music appreciation and analysis, music theory, solfeggio, harmony, musical form, piano. Oriented on teaching, the faculty makes great efforts to focus on every aspect of the teaching procedure. Demonstration classes, academic seminars, forums and lectures are regularly held to improve the staff’s teaching abilities and scholarship. On the other hand, students are irregularly organized to write articles about music comments and lyrics so as to encourage their studying initiative.

      While devoting to teaching jobs, the staff of Modern Music Literature Faculty actively engage in scientific researches, academic and creation activities in their spare time. Besides, many teachers of our faculty have been invited to attend some important academic activities held in and abroad. And there are more than 20 theses of music comments and lyrics published by students.

The brief introduction of the main majors of Modern Music Literature Faculty:

        Music Comments is a kind of appliance course. It aims at cultivating the students to analyze, research and evaluate all of the phenomena in modern music field, including music creation, music performance, musicians and music activities. Compared with traditional musicology theory, music comments focus more on time effectiveness; Compared with music news live program, music comments emphasize analysis and criticism.

        Lyrics creating is a kind of appliance course. It aims at guiding the students to fully understand the structure, types, styles and musical characteristics of lyrics and helping the students to enhance their ability of lyrics creativity and the basic methods and skills of lyrics creating.

       Music planning and documents writing is a kind of appliance course. It aims at cultivating the students’ ability of planning, creating and organizing many kinds of music programs so as to prepare for their future jobs in the literature and art field.

       Revising and writing of drama scripts is a kind of appliance course. Its aim is to train the students to be able to revise and write drama scripts.

       Since the foundation of Modern Music Literature Faculty there are six grades of undergraduates amount to 116 students have been recruited. At present there are 61 students at school. The graduates mainly started their career in different walks of life in our country, such as movie and mass media organizations, journalism and publishing industry, music education organizations, literature and art organizations, literature and art agencies. And some of them have become the key members in their working field.
