Pop Singigng and Dancing

    
The specialty of Pop Singing and Dancing was founded in the year of 2003 to cater to the great demand for experts in the field. Since its foundation, we has been persisting in improving teaching quality, constructing teaching system, adjusting subjects design to social requirements and is now on the way to a comprehensive department with complete subjects, devoted teaching staff, and plentiful achievements.
Curriculums in this major are set up with regard to that in conservatories in Europe and America. The purpose of the four- year under- graduate education is to train students to master various kinds of pop singing and dancing who is an expert in one thing while good at many so as to be qualified as either teachers in art academies and normal universities or performers in professional performance companies, record companies and TV stations.
With joint efforts of the school head, department head and teaching staffing this major, a great number of excellent students mushroomed in recent years and achieved remarkable feats, with Wei Chen being one of them, who won the Golden Prize in Asian Pop Music Festival in 2006 and came to third in Happy Boy in 2007.


        Curriculum Structure

The course design of the major of Pop Singing and Dancing gives priority to pop singing and fashionable dancing, combined with rehearsal, singing and dancing combination, and other courses with artistic characteristics.

       Introduction to major

     
Hip- hop
It involves dancing of different styles such as Jazz, Hip- hop, Popping, Locking. Wave, House, Breaking, Soul, Reggae and so on. Students in this major are expected to master several skills while specialize in one area with ability to integrate these dancing of different kinds.

Singing
Diversification of singing style is one the purposes of this course. Students are supposed to have their unique ways of performance so as to fully express songs.

     
Play rehearsal
This course focuses on the rehearsal of different musicals such as Cat, Note- Dame de Paris and original musical Blue Memory.

    
Singing and dancing combination
There are two kinds of combinations: singing while dancing and Singingwith harmong. The two can be merged into one combination.

   
Aims of major development
 As institution of higher learning, the Department of Pop Music thinks of it as her responsibility to study and develop pop culture as well as spread pop dancing and singing culture. The aims of major development are to build it into three bases of domestic pop culture: base for advanced pop singing and dancing performance, base for pop singing and dancing study, and base for singing and dancing creation.
For sake of aims, first, we are promoting discipline construction and improving teaching quality. Second, we persist in learning from universities at home and abroad in order to enhance teaching material compilation. Third, teachers as pace-setter in the major development are dispatched to make further study to be expert in this field. Even since the foundation, teachers as Qin Haibo, Meng Guang, Yang Wenshi and Wang Yuxi have been sent to artistic academies to pursue their study. As a result, they have been achieving success in teaching, creation, competition and scientific study.
Zeng Xianfeng, deputy professor, has been engaged in vocal arts for over forty years. He has taken deputy head of Nei Jiang Song and Dance Troupe, deputy head of Nei Jiang Literature Association, member of Chinese Musicians Association, vocal teacher of the School of Pop Music, deputy head of vocal teaching group, and head of the Department of Pop Singing and Dancing in succession. He is adept at scheming special performance for pop culture and is known as “the first one who introduced pop culture into Sichuan Province”.
Qin Haibo, deputy director of the Department of Pop Singing and Dancing in Pop Music School. He created favorably- reviewed musical Blue Memory in 2005, and win golden prize in Hu Bei Bell Set pop singing competition in the same year. Then he won first in the 1st China Pop Music Competition in 2007, and came to second in Hu Bei playing area of China Youth singing competition.
Meng Guang, teacher of pop dancing and Hip- hop, the Department of Pop Singing and Dancing of the School of Pop Music, Sichuan Conservatory of Music. She was a student of Korean Hip- hop dancer Baby Slick in 2006 and is now an accomplished dancer. Her thesis On Teaching of Hip- hop in Artistic Academy was chose as excellent one in the forum of music education of Chinese artistic academy.
Wang Xiaoxiao, teacher of pop singing, who has a unique teaching and singing method of her own. She has won different prizes since 2004, such as golden prize of the Sichuan playing are of 11th National Youth TV Singing Competition in 2004, acting as honorable guest in the birthday concert of Li Yuchun in 2006, released her first album Drunken Love in 2007.
