Pop Singing Department

Aimed at the foundation of the discipline of pop music and meeting the demand of the market, the specialty of pop singing came into being in Pop Music School, Sichuan Conservatory of Music in 2001. Since its foundation, with the continuous constructions of teachers and disciplines, Pop Singing Department has completed the construction of academic teams, led by Prof. Yu Zhengyi as the head, originating from an educational spot led by Prof. Zeren Yongzhu. Pop singing is designed not to cultivate systematic, scientific and comprehensive pop singing skills, but to put an emphasis on the cultivation of inter-disciplinary music talents with solid music theories, complete knowledge composition, comprehensive artistic accomplishments and dignified artistic virtues.

With the guidance of Prof. Yu Zhengyi, the discipline professor, the department puts forward the brand-new method of Stylistic Vocalization, motivated by the scientific, precise and innovative academic attitudes. Furthermore, the vocalization course is inventively divided into basic vocalization and stylistic vocalization in the teaching practice, which has denied the incorrect idea in pop singing, that is, pop singing is unteachable and unnecessary to teach.

With the ultimate of goal of cultivating high quality and international-geared pop music singers, Pop Singing Department insists on the principle of teaching in accordance with students’ aptitude. The high quality graduates working in arts organizations, performance companies, army, enterprises, schools, radio and TV stations, magazines, newspapers and social organizations have been extensively confirmed and appraised by the society.

To extend the discipline construction of pop singing, improve the teaching quality and build a high-standard academic team, teachers in our department not only keep on strengthening the international cooperation and studying, but are active in optimizing and reforming the teaching courses as well, so to establish a systematic and comprehensive curriculum gradually.
