With the rapid development of material culture, the society has been paying increasing great attention to spiritual culture. In spite of the fact that pop music has long been regarded as the main stream of mass cultural consumption, there is still a long way to go before its singing skills are fully popularized and improved. On the one hand, music lovers are keen to learn more about both general knowledge and detailed instruction of pop song singing in more comprehensive and profound ways. On the other hand, they find it hard to get a book which elaborates on such theory.
It is at such a time that we set about compiling this book in the hope that these books can bridge the gap between the lack of academic books and rising demand for such books. As a matter of fact, we have been devoting to the exploration of curriculum construction and teaching system construction since the foundation of the School of Pop Music, and this book is one of our achievements.
In terms of professional study, singing pop song is not as simple as what we have expected. Due to individual difference and diversified singing style, singers are in favor of works of various styles. Therefore, we try to provide them with works of distinct styles in order not to wipe out their personal ways of interpreting these songs.
There are 200 selected songs in this book, 100 Chinese songs and 100 foreign ones, all with piano accompaniment. What’s more, there are detailed instructions for singers to refer to, especially in the foreign part. Seeing that quite a few works are new to singers, we offered abundant information about its background and singing skills. It is our hope that singers can understand their own characteristics and then deal with a song accordingly instead of imitating others. It is our suggestion that singers make an attempt to try different ways of singing, which is beneficial for them to expand their horizon.
As a course for higher art academy, this book is intended for those who devote themselves to pop music. No matter he is a teacher, a student, or a music lover, he is sure to learn more about pop music by reading this book.
