        Sponsored by SichuanConservatory of Music, and organized by Pop MusicSchool of Sichuan Conservatory of Music and Chengtian Digital Entertainment & Technology Corporation, the 2007 Pop Music Education Forum For Chinese Arts Institutes & “Academy Cup”Pop Music Competition was successfully held from November 8th through November 11th , 2007. Representatives from the nine Chinese conservatories , from the European conservatories, together with Jin Tielin, president of China Conservatory of Music, Chen Xiaoqi, vice chairman of Pop Music Society of Chinese Musicians’ Association , and Zhao Daxin, general manager of Chinese Record Company, assemble here in the conservatory for the common purpose of promoting the pop music education in China. The forum is highly perceived as the feast for Chinese pop music, and it is unrivaled in its scale, reach and staying power.
     It is no more than 20 years since Chinese pop music started to form buds while the pop music education in Chinese arts institutes seems to be the  rising sun in the morning. As the first pop music school in China, our school has achieved remarkable success since it was founded in the year 2001. Meanwhile, the pop music major in other Chinese arts colleges has been developed and demonstrated its unique characteristics. It might be considered that pop music now in the process of healthy and steady development. The higher education for pop music, however, unlike the traditional music higher education, is still in short of a regular and scientific system and rich accumulation as well, with regard to its educational concept, pattern, specialty set-up, curriculum structure, coursebook compilation and talent fostering. As a pioneer in the pop music higher education, we are deeply aware of the problems occurring in the course of the development. The forum is expected to offer a very approapriate platform for the exchanges of thoughts and insights on pop music education so that it can contribute to the devlopment and perfection of Chinese pop music higher education.
     At the forum, there were 27 entries accepted for Chinese Pop Music Higher Education Thesis Appraisal, ten of which were respectively awarded the 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes and outstanding awards. The thesises submitted by the faculty members of the conservatory were among the prize-winning after the highly acclaimed judges like Zhao Shiming , director of the Central Conservatory Publishing House, made their final and serious decisions as to the winners. Meanwhile experts of pop music higher education  from Germany, Holland , Hungary and  the like exchanged their exper
The highlight of the forum is the “Academy Cup” Pop Music Competition, which is designed to break through the conventional pattern of the known pop music competitions, and strives to establish a brand-new “academic-style” competition system , updates the existing appraisal criteria and aesthetic values in pop music singing competitions, and eventually brings Chinese pop music in line with international practice. The competition is seen as the peak of the pop music achievements in China,  with 23 contestants from 11 conservatories at home and abroad. The contestants are the finalists after the severe competitions, who are well equipped with regular cultivation in their ability to control their voice, in the mastery of their musical sense and musical creativity.
    2007 Pop Music Education Forum For Chinese Arts Institutes & “Academy Cup”Pop Music Competition has been freighted with the significance of being a milestone in the Chinese pop music world. We firmly believe that it is bound to play an active role in the development of Chinese pop music higher education and exert an everlasting impact on the Chinese pop music as regards its integration with the global pop music.
